Brunswick
Set right on the Harvest Highway, the town of Brunswick Junction has made its mark on Western Australia in many ways.
As evidenced by the Brunswick cow, affectionately known as Daisy, standing just on the Highway, Brunswick has made a significant contribution to the State’s dairy industry. The landmark dairy factory, also just on the highway is testament to the importance of this contribution. Many of the ice-creams and yoghurt that you have downed have, no doubt, originated in Brunswick. There are several original farms in the area where you can see some of the machinery and buildings associated with the early days of this important industry.
As the town’s name conveys, Brunswick Junction was also a very important link in the railway system operating in this part of the state.
In addition, Brunswick Junction proudly hosts an outstanding agricultural show in October. This show is a great opportunity to see the agricultural produce and animals that are so important to our economy. There are wonderful displays of handwork and jams, preserves and all sorts of country fare, not often seen in this modern age, as well as the sideshows, showbags and wild rides so beloved of show-goers.
The scenery around Brunswick is classic dairy country- green rolling hills, dotted with peaceful grazing cattle, and plenty of great picnic spots for those who enjoy a ride in the country. Try taking Beela Road into Beela Valley- a truly beautiful drive!!
Speaking of picnics, one of the favourite spots for locals and for visitors alike is the Brunswick Pool located right near the road bridge on the Harvest Highway, heading towards Perth. This pool is superb for a refreshing dip on those hot summer days and the well-maintained grass area adjacent to the pool is perfect for family picnics or just relaxing.
As you drive through Brunswick, you cannot help but notice the heritage buildings proudly standing in the streets along and adjacent to the highway. These structures bear witness to the rich history of the area. Ask some of the locals for more information about them
Brunswick is poised to undergo a significant streetscape program which will transform the town and as part of this, local people are busily developing walk trails that will enable you to explore the township and surrounding countryside.
