Jarrahdale

Jarrahdale is one of those really fascinating small towns that you come upon as you drive through the leafy green trees and rolling hills characteristic of this area.

As implied by its name, Jarrahdale has a rich and long standing connection with the jarrah forests of the Darling Scarp.  Many of the historic buildings and industrial sites that are dotted around the town and the surrounding area reflect this association, and you can visit the old saw mill and Mill Manager’s House, and marvel at the huge log that commemorates the town’s heritage.

Many of the original buildings still stand in the town and the cemetery is worthy of a visit to understand the hardships that the early settlers had to endure.  Some of Jarrahdale’s enterprising citizens have put together a series of guided walks that will enable you to see some of the historic sites and nature-based attractions in the area.

The machinery museum is well worth a visit to see some of the equipment used in bygone days to work the soil and earn a living, as well as the cars and vehicles used to transport the family to those places that were a little beyond walking distance.

Apart from a rich history, Jarrahdale is also home to some modern developments, including some wineries that are a welcome respite for travellers and holidaymakers and some arts and crafts galleries that offer a chance to buy something a little unusual for those who are waiting at home.
