Manjimup

Manjimup , famous for its timber and towering forests is a great place to visit, not only for the majesty of those tall trees, but for the wonderful fresh produce, the burgeoning wine industry, the truffles, the natural attractions, the history, the events, and much much more.

For those who like to get back to nature, there are lots of places to explore, including climbing the Diamond Tree, a former forest lookout,  visiting the King Jarrah Tree and marvelling at its splendour, or photographing the Four Aces.  If  you enjoy a water experience, why not pay a visit to the historic icon in this area, Fonty’s Pool or perhaps enjoy a picnic along the banks of the Donnelly River, or maybe Glenoran Pool is more to your liking.

For fresh produce, why not visit the Manjimup Farmers Market?  Here you can enjoy farm fresh produce, grown locally, picked fresh from the farm and sold by the farmer.  If you come to the Old Packing Shed in Manjimup on the third Saturday of each month, the markets begin trading at 8 am and here you will find high quality fruit and veges, grown to perfection.  Not only fresh produce, but the industrious people of Manjimup also bring along their delicious value added produce to sell- so look for home made jams and preserves, sauces and heaps more.

As well as the markets, you will find roadside stalls dotted throughout the region, operating on that time-honoured “honour” system, where you can drive up, choose your own produce, and leave the money in the ‘honour box”.

Manjimup has a long and interesting social and industrial history, and there are lots of opportunities for the visitor to learn more about the heritage and culture of the area.  The first stop would be a visit to the Timber and Heritage Park in the townsite of Manjimup.  This unique ‘museum’ gives you a snapshot of what Manjimup, its people and its industry are all about.  Once you’ve had a look over the Park, then there are other sites of historical interest in the town and nearby - ask at the Visitor Centre for more information.

Now, Manjimup is a very sports-minded community and visitors and locals can enjoy the many facilities, including the newly opened indoor swimming pool, and events devoted to those who enjoy their exercise and a sense of challenge.  The famous Manjimup 15000 motocross event held on the June long weekend, for example, is always popular and attracts state, national and international competitors, creating a huge spectacle, enjoyed by large crowds.

There is so much more to Manjimup and to learn about this timber town, why  not call in to the brand new visitor centre in the centre of town.  The staff at the centre will be delighted to provide information on the accommodation, attractions, activities, history and anything else you care to imagine.  Contact the centre on phone 08 9771 1831, fax 08 9777 1001,  email manjitour@westnet.com.au, or visit the webpage at www.manjimupwa.com
