Nannup
Nannup owes a lot to the founders of their town. Why? Because they couldn’t have chosen a more picturesque location for this historic timber town if they had tried!!
The beautiful Blackwood River winds its way through the small town known for its fantastic gardens and tranquil ambience. Known as ‘The Garden Village’, Nannup celebrates these gardens in two of their major festivals for the year, the Flower and Garden Festival in August, with tulips in abundance, and the Nannup Rose Festival in November.
On the subject of festivals, the Nannup Music Festival has been held for approximately sixteen years on the long weekend in March. This festival attracts well-known artists from Australia and from the international scene, and has a long tradition as a festival of fun, sun and wonderful music.
All of this and yes, there is more!!! Nannup is set in the forested area of the south west and even just the drive into the town is a scenic ‘tree change’ experience, no matter from which direction you come.
Take the time to wander around the village and visit the interesting shops and studios both around the town and on the outskirts of the village. There are arts and crafts on offer, open gardens to enjoy and wineries to tempt the palate. Cheese lovers will want to visit our two award-winning cheese factories - sheep cheese and heritage cheese. For those who want to try something different, a mythic maze beckons. Since Nannup is a timber town, several artisans make exquisite wooden furniture and other objects.
A wide range of accommodation is available, ranging from backpacker/budget/caravan park through to family-friendly farm chalets or spa accommodation places for couples wanting a romantic getaway.
For the active, mountain bike competitions, a rally, the Bibbulmun track and canoeing beckon. For those wanting to de-stress, just enjoying the ambience and taking a walk through the wildflower trails will re-vitalise and re-energise them. In the winter log fires are a feature and in the summer, Barrabup Pool is a popular swimming and picnicking spot.
Nannup, the Garden Village, would like to invite you to visit and to share in the beauty, the joy and the fun of this spot. The local visitor centre, set in the Old Police Station (complete with cells- take a look!!) is staffed with people who love their town and will enjoy sharing their knowledge with you. Please call 9756 1211 for more information, or visit the website www.nannupwa.com to view accommodation and attractions.
