Pemberton
Pemberton- just the name evokes pictures of tall, tall trees, dappled shadows and that special peace that only a forest can provide. This small town has become a firm holiday favourite of Western Australians for many many years.
So what makes Pemberton so special? Of course, as already mentioned that wonderful karri forest is always a drawcard- until you have been to Pemberton, you would not realise how many shades of green there are, nor would you experience that feeling of awe that comes as you are dwarfed by those magnificent trees.
Whilst these magnificent forests may be enough for the visitor, once you dig into Pemberton, you will find that there are many layers to this picturesque town. Still talking trees, there is the thrill that you can only get from climbing the Gloucester Tree and ending up in the tree tops. Try some of the forest drives that will take you deep into the heart of the forests and also provide you with some valuable information about these trees that have contributed so much to the economy and lifestyle of Western Australia. If you are not into self-drive, there are guided tours available.
Still on those trees, there is also a tour of the local timber mill, which will give you a valuable insight into how the timber industry works today and something of the history of this important industry.
So, away from forests, but still sort-of talking trees- one of the important by-products that the forest has given us is the famous fine wood industries and there is no better place to find that very special piece of wood work than in Pemberton- there are galleries around the town that will keep you captivated for hours. The forest also inspires other forms of arts and crafts and these outlets, dotted throughout Pemberton, may well be the place where you find that special souvenir to take home.
Pemberton is also recognised for its trout and marron, and again there is a variety of outlets where you can dine on these special delicacies, or even catch or buy some for yourself and cook up a storm. Restaurants and cafes in town are well worth a visit and to accompany your meal, you can consider some of the fine wines that are produced in the Pemberton region.
Yes, a winery tour is well worth the drive around Pemberton. You will be surprised at the number of wineries offering cellar door sales in the area. Many of these wineries offer award winning tastings and a wonderful array of wines that will be sure to appeal to your palate. If driving is an issue then there are winery tours available as well.
And of course, after all of this activity, there is a huge range of quality accommodation where you can rest your weary head, ready for the next exciting day discovering Pemberton.
