Walpole
Walpole - such an interesting name with all sorts of connotations and the town of Walpole is just that- a really interesting little town with lots of “strings to its bow”.
Those of us who have known Walpole for many years have seen the town grow, but it still retains its comfortable feel and unrushed air. Unique in its two major attractions- the majestic forests and the magnificent untamed coastal scenery, Walpole offers a great deal to the visitor, whether the aim is to relax and leave the hurly burly behind, or to get out there and get amongst it. For the adventure type traveller- you will find your niche in Walpole.
It goes without saying that most visitors will know about the unusual and intriguing 'Tree-Top Walk', which enables visitors to climb into the treetops and experience the giant tingle forests without impacting on the delicate ecosystems. When in Walpole, this is a must and the experience offered by this unique icon will stay with you for many a long day.
And a swim in the Southern Ocean is also on the list of must-dos. There are plenty of safe and beautiful swimming places around the Southern coastline and the coastal scenery is both grand and rugged- make sure you take your camera.
If you are an active and energetic person, you will find plenty to do in this part of the world. Apart from swimming, there is boating and fishing, bush walking, or if you like more sedate pleasures, try some of the scenic drives on offer in this part of the world, or perhaps you might like to seek out some of the glorious wildflowers in season, or even try your hand at birdwatching.
Whilst in the town itself, take a walk along the main street and visit the many arts and crafts shops- there are some very different pieces on offer in these outlets and you will be sure to pick up that unusual souvenir or gift to take home.
Whilst Walpole might be an intriguing name, there are lots of other features with unusual names like Conspicuous Cliffs, Coalmine Beach and Fernhook Falls- why not visit these landforms and see if you can work out why they were so named?
